The 2010 Drucker Innovation Forum

Making Monday Different

Several times a year, the Drucker Institute hosts invitation-only forums for leading executives. These intimate events, with no more than 30 attendees, are unusual in the way that they bring together representatives from companies, nonprofits, academia and government agencies.

At our executive forums, participants explore various Drucker-inspired topics by trading insights and experiences with each other, and then take back to their own organizations at least one good idea that they can turn into action. This bias toward action is based on the way that Peter Drucker would challenge his consulting clients: “Don’t tell me you had a wonderful meeting with me. Tell me what you’re going to do on Monday that’s different.”

For example, Costco’s Jim Sinegal took part in a Drucker CEO Forum, where one of the main topics of discussion was shaping organizational values and culture. Immediately following the event, Costco’s senior executives met to review employee compensation. They wound up giving a raise to 43,000 front-line workers. “This happened because it came right on the heels of the meeting in Claremont,” Sinegal says.
